New Mobile App To Help Au Pairs Make Friends

Advertising your services with an au pair agency is a great idea if you do want to find a placement with a family sooner rather than later – but if you get stationed somewhere far away where you don’t know anyone, it can be really rather daunting.

Which is why it’s so exciting to hear about a new mobile app from the British Au Pair Agencies Association (BAPAA) that’s been designed to help people make friends easier with other au pairs in a secure online environment.

The AuPairs UK app will also provide access to advice and support to help those living with host families here in the UK, and it’ll be available free of charge to all au pairs currently residing in this country.

Every user will have to be approved manually by staff members at the BAPAA to make sure that all contacts are who they say they are. Once you’ve been manually verified, you can choose from a list of popular interests and then be matched with other users based on proximity. You can then start chatting with people and make friends based on shared interests.

“Traditional social media isn’t designed for the unique situation of au pairs and doesn’t offer any measure of safety when it comes to arranging meetups: how does an au pair know the people they’re chatting to are genuinely other au pairs?” Rebecca Haworth-Wood, chair of the BAPAA, said.
